*PRESS RELEASE*
Anioma Watch Association Commends Onicha-Olona on the Successful Enthronement of the Omu Institution
The Anioma Watch Association, a socio-cultural organisation of the Anioma people at home and in the Diaspora, warmly congratulates the people of Onicha-Olona on the successful enthronement of the Omu institution in the community. The Association considers this significant development a welcome reaffirmation of Onicha-Olona’s rich cultural heritage, traditional values, and enduring commitment to preserving institutions that promote unity, identity, and continuity for present and future generations.
We are particularly delighted that Onicha-Olona, one of Anioma’s foremost communities renowned for its rich cultural practices and one of the earliest Enuani communities in which the Omu institution was traditionally practised, has collectively chosen to revive this important cultural institution. This remarkable development underscores the resilience of the Anioma people and their determination to preserve, strengthen, and promote the cultural heritage and civilisation handed down through generations.
The Association is further delighted by the community’s choice of HRH Nwamaka Cynthia Jibunoh, as the newly installed 9th Omu of Onicha-Olona as a successor of HRH Justina Okukaleke Ntoka, the late Omu. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to her and wish her a peaceful, impactful, and successful reign as she assumes this important traditional responsibility.
The Association also acknowledges the growing role of the Omu institution in advancing community development and improving the wellbeing of the people. In this regard, we recall with great satisfaction the antenatal programme hosted on August 17, 2026, by HRH Obi Josephine Isioma Nwannabuogwu, the Omu of Ibusa, during which maternal items were presented to expectant mothers at a Primary Health Centre in the community.
We are pleased that our Association is able to leverage the Omu institution and other relevant traditional platforms across Anioma to support initiatives that directly touch the lives of our people and put smiles on their faces. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to working with traditional institutions, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders across Anioma in advancing initiatives that promote the welfare, development, and unity of our people.
Once again, the Anioma Watch Association felicitates with the people of Onicha-Olona on this important cultural accomplishment. We commend the community for this collective achievement and encourage its people to build on this milestone by pursuing further initiatives that strengthen their cultural identity, unity, and collective progress.
Long Live Onicha-Olona Kingdom!
Long Live Anioma Watch Association!
Long Live Anioma!
Long Live Delta State!
