The ancient and historically rich kingdom of Onicha-Olona in Anioma came alive with resonant drumbeats, vibrant colour, and deep cultural celebration as Chief Uzoamaka Anyah was traditionally installed as the Isama of Onicha-Olona in the early hours of the day.

The grand ceremony marked the triumphant conclusion of a deeply revered rite cycle, which commenced with the mandatory traditional vigil, a night of spiritual reflection, invocation of ancestral blessings, and rites of passage. By daybreak, the ancient drums of the kingdom echoed across the town, drawing together elders, titled chiefs, women groups, and energetic youths to witness the climax of this historic enthronement.

A visually stunning highlight of the final rites saw the newly crowned Isama, his body ritually adorned with Nzu, the sacred white chalk symbolizing purity, nobility, and ancestral approval, hoisted shoulder-high by the vibrant young men of the Onotu regarded, the traditional youth and defense assembly. His triumphant elevation and procession through the gathering fulfilled a crucial traditional mandate, signaling his readiness to carry the historic responsibilities of his office.

Chief Anyah, a respected media technician and accomplished businessman, hails from Idumu-Iyi, Ogbe-Obi Village in Onicha-Olona. He steps into the historic role following the transition of the late Isama Eziamala of Idumu-Ogbele, also from Ogbe-Obi Village. As one of the premier War Chiefs (Onotu) in Onicha-Olona’s traditional governance architecture, the office of the Isama carries immense responsibility in maintaining community defense, peace, and cultural continuity.

Messages of goodwill have already begun pouring in from far and wide. Notably, Rev. Felix Ifeanyi Nwabuokei, a prominent historical researcher from Onicha-Olona, warmly praised Chief Anyah’s installation, describing his elevation as a well-deserved choice. Rev. Nwabuokei called on the new traditional chief to leverage his office to foster greater unity among the people, while championing the preservation and dignity of Onicha-Olona’s rich cultural heritage. 

Chief Uzoamaka Anyah is the eleventh Isama of Onicha-Olona.
